About HackerTube

HackerTube is a browsing library of 3,553 videos found in Hacker News recommendations. Explore talks, lectures, courses and other videos through their summaries and the conversations that recommended them.

Where the library comes from

This site uses the HackerTube dataset and its published methodology. The library includes videos recommended by at least two distinct people. Titles, channel names, summaries, topic classifications, recommendation counts and HN comment records are taken from that dataset. HackerTube at hackertu.be is a separate browsing interface for those records.

Video detail pages link to the original YouTube video and the individual Hacker News comments. Excerpts are attributed to the recorded username and month; open the source to read the full conversation.

How to read the recommendations

A recommender count describes distinct people recorded in the source dataset. Mention counts can include references as well as recommendations. The year range refers to included HN comments, not a video’s upload date. Records are a snapshot, not a live or complete count of Hacker News activity.

Summaries and classifications can be incomplete or inaccurate. Opinions in comments belong to their authors. Source links let you check the context for yourself. Videos can become unavailable or change on YouTube.

Your library stays in your browser

YouTube provides video playback and thumbnails; embedded players connect to YouTube. DataSag collects website analytics to help us understand site usage. Public chat uses a keyed hash of the visitor’s network address to limit abuse; chat messages are visible to everyone.
